SUMMARY:BECx as Risk Management - Chamberlin Office
DESCRIPTION:Before you can be a Building Envelope Risk Manager (BERM – yes\, there is such a thing)\, you must understand the basic Commissioning Process and how it relates to the exterior building envelope. \nThis program is offered by NABCTA\, presented by Zero/Six Consulting. All classes will be at the Chamberlin Office in Houston. \nModule One: BUILDING ENVELOPE COMMISSIONING IN CONSTRUCTION\nDates Offered: April 14\, 2023 & June 9\, 2023 \nIn Module One we will: \n\nReview the Cx process (the process is the same whether you are commissioning the MEP systems of the envelope).\nReceive “hands on” experience with each of the functional tests that are commonly included in the BECx proess (window testing\, roof uplift\, blower door\, and more).\nReceive a sample BECx plan.\nShare the ever popular “lessons learned” from projects that did not successfully manage risk (names changed to protect the guilty).\n\nModule Two: VERTICAL ENVELOPE ASSEMBLIES\nDates Offered: April 28\, 2023 & June 30\, 2023 \nIn Module Two we will: \n\nUnderstand the basic types of vertical Wall Systems\, how performance standards are determined\, and when delegated design may be required.\nUnderstand the various Components of the wall systems that comprise the vertical building envelope.\nUnderstand what it means to achieve Environmental Separation and the roles that Air Barriers/Water Resistive Barriers play to in the process.\nUnderstand Testing related to commissioning the vertical portions of the building envelope.\n\nModule Three & Five: HORIZONTAL ENVELOPE ASSEMBLIES & WIND LOADS\nDates Offered: May 5\, 2023 & July 7\, 2023 \nIn Module Three we will: \n\nUnderstand the basic types of horizontal Roof/Plaza Systems and the performance requirements for each and when delegated design may be required.\nUnderstand the various Components of the horizontal building envelope.\nUnderstand how to achieve Environmental Separation; Roofing vs. Waterproofing.\nUnderstand Testing related to the horizontal building envelope.\n\nIn Module Five we will: \n\nUnderstand the Theory of how wind speed creates loads (pressures) on the building envelope\, and how size and geometry affect those loads.\nUnderstand which portions of the building envelope are typically NOT engineered by the Engineer of record and will require Delegated Design.\nUnderstand the various structural Components of the building envelope.\nUnderstand Testing related to the structural requirements for cladding attached to the building envelope.\n\nModule Four: DOOR & WINDOW OPENINGS\nDates Offered: May 26\, 2023 & July 28\, 2023 \nIn Module Four we will: \n\nUnderstand the basic types of vertical Fenestration Systems\, the performance requirements for each and when delegated design may be required.\nUnderstand the various Components of the fenestration systems related to the building envelope.\nUnderstand how to maximize Environmental Separation by product selection; low performing systems (i.e. storefront) vs. high performance systems (curtain walls).\nUnderstand Testing related to the fenestration located within the building envelope.\n\nSuccessful completion of all 5 modules (along with testing) will earn the attendees the designation of BERM… and the building industry needs you! For those of you wanting to knock out all five modules at once\, we will offer a full week course May 15\, 2023 at the Rellis Campus of the Texas A&M university System. \nHope to see you at one of our classes soon. \nCourse Presented by \nBill Coltzer Jr.\, AIA \nContact LBikova@nabcta.org for more information and registration.
